  • Jan 2002: Meeting of Akash Ganga Chennai volunteers

    AGC volunteers met on Jan 6, 2002 to review past activities and set up goals for the year 2002. Pictures

  • Jan 2002: Create a RWH plaque

    AGC produced 140 RWH signs to be used by homeowners after they have installed RWH systems in their premises. These signs will be attached to the front gate. Hopefully, passers by will stop and ask the particular homeowner about RWH in that house. Pictures

    Prof Sathyanarayana showed the "water posters' to about 50 children in a school in T.Nagar area. Children first walk past the posters and see them. Then they listen to Prof Sathyanarayana describe the importance of water and what we should do about it. Pictures

    R. Sri Kumar (IPS)Chairman and Managing Director of the Karnataka Police Housing Corporation Limited invited about 140 staff from all parts of Karnataka to a 1-day seminar on Rainwater harvesting in Bangalore on Jan 19th,2002. A team of 3 members from the Akash Ganga Chennai group participated in this seminar. Pictures

  • Nov 2001: Educational posters for Schools / Colleges

    Prof. M.V.Sathyanarayana of IITM Physics department has produced 40 posters to educate school children and college students. Volunteers may help him to reach all the schools.

  • Nov 2001: Publish in ‘Water Magazine’ of New Zealand

    Published from Auckland New Zealand. Contains RWH news from all around the world. The November issue contained a reference to Akash Ganga Chennai.

  • Nov 2001: AGC partially sponsors Temple Tank desilting in Ayanavaram

    Desilting and renovation of Arulmigu Kasi Viswanathar Temple, Ayanavaram in Chennai was started by Benjamin Cherian - Rotary Club of Madras in October Expected to be completed by January 2002.

    M.N.Mitra, an active participant in our Akash Ganga Chennai group seen on Jaya TV on Monday October 1,2001 at 7:30 AM in the program called "Kalai Malar". He discussed topics on Rain Water Harvesting as used in Chennai.

    Benjamin Cherian had an interview in the All India Radio regarding Rain Water Harvesting. Oct 3, 2001 It was broadcast 5.45 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. for the entire Tamil Nadu in AM Channel.

  • Oct 2001: RWH seminar in Coimbatore by CSE and CIC

    Centre for science and environment, and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Coimbatore organized a seminar on Rainwater Harvesting in Coimbatore on 6th Oct. 2001 Shekar Raghavan will cover macro and micro level RWH, Ramani is to cover case studies (residences and industries) in Rainwater Harvesting This seminar was coordinated by Janakiraman Saravanan of the National Water Harvesters Network.

  • Oct 2001: Umamaheshwaran, completes 150 to 200 houses with RWH

    Mr.Umamaheshwaran.has installed RWH units in over 150 to 200 houses in the last 2 months. Has a team of people to do good plumbing and masonry work. His Phone : 493-4083 Works in Adyar, Besant nagar, Mandavalli and Kotturpuram installs 3 to 4 houses everyday.

  • Oct 2001: 30 independent houses in Padmanabha Nagar install RWH

    K.Venkataraman, Fourth Street, Padmanabha Nagar, Adyar informs us that 30 independent houses have RWH units installed now.

  • Oct 2001: Annanagar flat complexes install RWH

    R.Ramarathnam, CEO resident of Annanagar installed RWH in his flat building. Arranged a meeting of the local colonies under Annanagar Apex Association.

  • Oct 2001: Mylapore Gardens invites residents in their street to see RWH

    Mr.T.N.Anantha Krishnan, Secretary of Mylapore Gardens Residents Association, 32 Devadi Street Mylapore consisting of 27 flats, total ground area of our flat is about 4 grounds, has installed RWH with assistance from Sekar Raghavan.

  • Oct 2001: RWH presentations/seminars in Chennai

    Sekar Raghavan conducted presentations and seminars at a number of Chennai companies during September and October. These companies include Rane, AUDCO India Ltd, Sundaram Brake Linings, Ashok Leyland, TI Metal Forgings. A short-term course on 'Towards Sustainable Habitats' held in Auroville on Oct 22, 23 included a talk on RWH by Raghavan.

    Ram Krishnan worked with India Abroad newspaper from NY to publish this article.

  • Sept 2001: 2-week ad campaign on Chennai online.com

    We purchased a two week banner ad campaign on Chennai Online.com for about Rs 10,000. This helped to generate many inquiries in September 2001.

  • Aug 2001: Create a Akash Ganga Chennai ad button

    A blue color button featuring the Akash Ganga Chennai effort was produced in Minnesota. (500 buttons). These will be used in Chennai and USA to promote the RWH effort. The button carries the exact picture that you see on the top left corner of this page.

  • July 2001: Compose and print a new RWH brochure by Rotary

    An 8-page pamphlet describing RWH and Akash Ganga Chennai was printed in August. The cost of printing this brochure was paid by the Rotary Club of Madras. This pamphlet includes drawings and some descriptions in Tamil.
